The Odyssey has begun! In 12 days our 20 brave contestants will cover 2500 gruelling kilometres of rugged Namibian terrain – through the extreme 4×4 trails of Kaokoland, Namibia!
Of the 20 contestants, 18 are South African, 1 is Angolan and the other, Mozambican. The contestants, who were selected after making it through a tough bootcamp weekend, were then randomly paired up to comprise the Odyssey Top 10!
Each team will have to complete the event – which features many tough 4×4 trails – in identical Ford 3.2 XLT Double Cab 4×4 Rangers. Each team will be evaluated on their technical and precision driving, camp craft, communication and daily vehicle maintenance. There will also be a series of tough tasks, such as river rafting, vehicle recovery and tracking!
Teams will cover some of the toughest terrains in Africa including the daunting Van Zyl’s pass and the path along the Kunene River. However, magnificent sites are also to be seen such as the Epupa Falls and the Puros Loop.
Desert lions, elephants, snakes and scorpions are just a few of the creatures our contestants are expected to come across. Extreme temperatures are also expected – from scorching hot to freezing cold!
Despite all of this, the ultimate prize will be worth it!
The teams will be competing for the opportunity to each drive around in an Odyssey Ranger for a year including R5000 fuel spend every month!
The Odyssey ends on the 18th September 2014 and the winners will be announced in October!
